    7/8-14 would be the standard national fine thread size and you can purchase threaded rod and taps at McMaster.com

    Sounds like 3/4 electrical pipe from here. Most any elec, piping shop can thread the OD for you. Run a 3/4 pipe tap for the ID and thread together. As stated above, use anti-seize compound if dismantle will be required.

    I am an electrician, "Alumox", is/was used for aluminium cables and aluminium cable crimping, or at any termination. Basically a rich zinc in a grease type medium. I have found it good, as an anti galling method. Particularly in in a salt environment, ie, boats.
