Hello all. Newbie here. I'm working in a little job shop in the midwest to improve conditions on the floor. A lot of the employees have voiced concern about getting proper tooling quickly and easily. What I want to know is how should tooling be managed.
We're working to organize the tool area and have everything sorted, simplified, and shined. We currently have operators running to the tool area to grab tools when they need them. I believe this leads to wasted time from walking around. We could have the parts out on the floor with their required tooling, but then we have tooling sitting around doing nothing most of the time. We also have operators hording tools to avoid running around but then we have an issue with having tools that no one can find because they're scattered around in different workstations.
This whole organization thing is harder than I thought. How do you handle tooling, and what do you do to keep operators from hording tools?
