How far should a newly cut way wiper of say a medium hard (F5) felt, reach past the sliding way as to give a good compression or "pre-load" to do its job, but without being so much as to push the sliding part off of the slide-way?
Is there any consideration to how thick a wiper should be? Heavy parts + longer travel = thicker wipers?
Am I correct to assume that wipers should NOT be put on parts that can possibly extend over the edge of a way surface, say on the compound of a lathe, such that while extended past the way, it may pick up debris and bring them on to the way when it goes back over it?
