Having issues getting the clutch adjusted om my mill. Played with the large adjustment nut on the backside and the allen screw adjustment on the front. Seems like I can either get it to engage or not engage but not both. Sure I must be missing something and the manual is clear as mud. Anybody know the procedure let me know please.

I remember having issues, but don't remember how I resolved them.

I know that I spent a lot of time cleaning it. And I don't usually like to clean stuff like that unless I absolutely have to.

We are talking about the boring feed clutch right?

Yes, attached a couple of photos. I just completely went thru the whole mill, all new bearings, cleaned and reassembled the feed gear sets. Figured it's a clutch, how difficult can it be. IMG_2437.jpgIMG_2436.jpg

ask Mr Google to find you the army manual for the Index 847. The lower part of the head is the same as the 845.

I didn't have any trouble with my 847, once I had it cleaned up.
iirc it should be adjusted to push a 5/16 drill in steel without slipping.

if all else fails call Wells-Index, they'll help you ;-))
