looks like a air line quick connect fitting so I guess air pressure, maybe a bearing?

Sinker EDM electrode holder?

Thanks William, I think you might be right. I've recently taken over this area of the shop from some retirees that all moved out of the area. It would not work with our current sinker (all 3R holders) but perhaps one of the previous machines? I think I might have a new pen holder.....

Charmilles D-10 uses those. Probably the other models of that vintage as well.

I was going to suggest a magnetic pickup for a material handling rig with a pnumatic pop off for loosing the plate, but since I've never worked a sinker EDM it could very well be a common EDM part. Does it stick to things?

The magnet is on the ram of the machine. Electrically actuated, with green and red buttons. Right next to another pair of green and red buttons that start and stop the machine. No fun at all to grab the electrode holder to remove it and hit the wrong green button. Makes your arm feel like Popeye's looks.
