What is the chance of finding a quality two speed motor at a decent price?

I have a machine with a 2hp 440v three phase motor in two speed- 3400/1750.

I don’t feel like jumping through all the hoops with a transformer and phase converter to run in my shop.
I am not finding a reasonable cost replacement- looking in the wrong places?

I’m cheap on this- a couple of hundred or so doable.
$1500 not so much..
Is a 220 single phase version of this used in some application where I might find surplus motors in market.

Or just bite the damn bullet- buck the voltage down, wire for fast windings VFD to drive it...?
I know the drill- just trying to avoid having to do so.

Same here, I have 2 small hand turret lathes with them, and one
has the hi-speed winding gone. They are both 220 vac 3-phase.

I have seen them on Snow tapping machines, but usually 1/2 hp.
Check auctions, as they go for scrap (drill press with no handles....)
However, many I have seen are 440 v only (yes, a 1/2 h.p. motor
for 3 phase 440v...:toetap:)

I see brand new chinese turret lathes with them, might take some
looking, but would be good to find the motor manuf.

You don't specify frame size, so I presume there is room for a physically larger motor. Look at sites such as QCsupply.com. Two speed motors for ventilation used to be quite common. Many have been replaced by variable speed, but some repair motors are still available.

Yes- simple dual pulley on motor arbor with room to hang larger motor.
It’s about as complicated as a sewing machine motor slung under a table..

or go DC and variable speed control

Sorry! Something went wrong!

I have a new in the box (never opened) multi drive KBM_240D thatI will be selling but it is a solid state variable speed DC motor control for 1hp and 2hp so not for your motor. They cost about $125 and the box is marked $125.. guess I would take $80 for it

KB Electronics, 937, KBMD-24D, -9/-18VDC, .75/1.5 HP, Nema 1, DC Drive

KBMD-24D KB Electronics 115/23 VAC, thru .75/1.5 HP

The box shows 1hp and 2hp with using a heat sink.

Buck-
Thanks.
I had done a eBay search- even found the Century pool motors and somehow missed that listing.

Pondering DC- good tip- thanks- maybe your setup would work- got to mull that over.

I guess that would be irrelevant as the motors are 240 volt.

How does that answer the HP question sir ? Pump loads are not all the same.

And 240 vac single phase is your motors, I understood that from the beginning.

You see, I said "Does the OP need plug reverse ?".

IE: is the OP's application such that 3 phase is needed ?

I'm pretty darn sure your single phase motor will not plug reverse.
