Do you have a specification with the definition? How do you machine a surface to approximately half a tenth? I don't think the colloquial definition applies here.

beings were only talking about a tolerance of 1/2 a thenth, could it be a wavelength spec?

robert123, I just gotta ask what you're working on where the prints are 60+ years old. (Yeah, probably the draftsman didn't change when the standard changed.)
