what locktite?

There seems to be a lot of overlap in Loctite products 242 is also a moderate strength blue product. 242 will also wick a little bit.

Every commercial auto repair shop I have been associated with has used 242. 220 is listed as a low strength locker while 242 is listed as a medium strength locker. The 220 can be used for small diameter fasteners without fear of shearing them off when trying to remove them. 242 cautions it may hold tight enough to shear fasteners under 1/4" in diameter. Here are some links to their spec sheets.

For removable fasteners loctite 242 is usually the best choice. For #4 and smaller, 222 works well. If you use 242 on the smaller fasteners you run the risk of having the screw twist off before the loctite breaks loose.

If you don't need the mil spec, go with 243 over 242, it is more tolerant of oil on the hardware

i will share what i have learned in the meantime.

vibra-tite vc-3/4/5 are solvent based, meaning you can take out the screw, recoat it and put it back, as the new resin will dissolve the old one. i talked to henkel and surprisingly locktite doesnt have such a product. if you coat the screw with say 242 and you take it out, you have to use a new screw (or somehow clean the old one), as a new coating will not cure on the old one.
