What size 4 jaw chuck for a 20 x 40 lathe?

usually have at least 2 sizes cause bigger chuck has lower max rpm limit and increased out of balance vibration

If you just wanted one chuck, I think a 12" would be a good compromise.

I had a 18X40 [would swing 20"] and ran a 16" 4 jaw ,worked well for the jobs I did. Smaller would NOT have worked, also lathe was a gap bed.

Don't forget the crane to get the chuck on & off the spindle.

I've got a 12" Bison for my Monarch and it's all I can lift at my age - mid 60's.

I've got a 15" on my 16" reed prentice which actually will swing a tic over 18" that works well for me. I can take it off and put it on with the help of 2x4s though not sure how much longer.
