    Hi Tyrone,

    I was taught to leave only the small end proud when fully seated, and finish the other end flush with the surface of the pinned part.

    That way there's no question which end to hit to remove it.

    Taper pins seat almost fully with light finger pressure.
    You only need to pound them a bit to fully seat them and prevent them from falling out; they will stay put for decades.
