I have around 1 ton of 300 series stainless chips and a couple hundred pounds in scraped parts/bar ends. I was wondering what a good price would be to scrap this at? my father has been holding onto it for a long time at the shop but he passed away and don't know the scrap prices.
There is also a large coffee tin of carbide inserts that I would guess weighs about 40 pounds

Scrap never lower...ya shoulda sold it last year when prices were OK.......now you d be lucky if the yard will pick up free........I suggest you sell stainless bar offcuts on ebay ,there is a hobbyist demand for them.

You won't get much for the carbide right now, I'd hang on to it unless you really just want to get rid of it. I'm pretty confident it will go up again when the economy starts improving.

If the stainless must be removed, then you'll have to take whatever the offers are.

no the stainless doesn't need to be moved I was just wondering what a good price would be to scrap at would be? I would rather hold on to it and sell later at a better price but don't know the prices. we deliver our scrap to the yards. the only thing we get rid of on a monthly basis due to no room is magnetic steel and we get roughly 120 a ton I think for that. Last time I asked the stainless scrap price they said 15 cents a pound a couple months ago and my father said that's a rip off and to hold onto it

what would a hobbyist do with 303 stainless??? all I can think of is knives but 303 is kinda soft for that.
Also what would be a good way to determine a price to sell stainless on ebay

I would set your price between speedy metals or mcmaster carr and what you can buy it for in full lengths. Fill a flat rate box in a variety of sizes if you can.... Packing needs to be top notch so the pcs do not come out when they throw it onto the truck.
Who cares what they make, right?
Sold on ebay for $35:
14 Pieces SS Stainless Steel Rod Round Bar Stock Lot | eBay
Looks like these were $36 each lot
20 pcs 303 Stainless Steel Solid Rod Lathe Bar Stock .280 Diameter 12" Length | eBay

Easy to machine stainless parts would be a good candidate :D

Sell at ebay at 50% what you would pay when you order few hundred pounds at a time and the price looks very attractive for home shop machinist even if it is random cutoffs.
30-60 usd lots probably sell best and are more productive than selling 2" piece of 1/2" bar at a time.

I made a boring bar from 316 stainless anyway. I got a load of large stainless bolts and the like from the scrapyard. Also some carbon steel ones.

I would sit on it if I were you. I actually started a big pile of chips and scraps. My guess is I'm currently sitting on over 25,000 lbs. I have an excavator and bulldozer to handle it so I'll sit on it till scrap prices are to my liking.

Put the chunks for sale here (down below) has been done several times with good results.

As far as the chips....try adding them to your next concrete pour....
