What SExx inserts for steel, for use in a 30-taper?

Hi guys,

I don't do much steel in my Speedio, but when I do, facing is dicey. I take very light finishing cuts, but the blunt inserts I have been using cut "hard". Like, they pound, or something like that.

Anybody got a recommendation for a softer-cutting steel SExx 45* face mill insert?

They have facemilling figured out.

In fact, I run a 2.5" Helido facemill in a Haas VF2.
This is a double sided negative incline insert,
but the face geometry is the secret.
I was running 2" woc, .25" doc, .006 ipt.
Spindle load was 130%. You could barely hear the cutter,
just the chips pelting the glass like a machine gun.
Oh and that was 1000 sfm, too....
