Default Why can't I get my grease gun to release?

Is there some trick to getting a grease gun to let go of the zerk? On all my chucks and collet closers that have recessed grease fittings, I have to unscrew the head from the gun to get it off the fitting. There has to be a better way, no?
    Regards, Ray

Ussually, the coupler stays locked because the pressure is still up
on whatever you just filled. That's the beauty of the Zerk system,
more back pressure actuates the coupler lock harder.

However, does this only happen in the recessed zerks ?

I can see how that happens. Most of the time you have to tilt the coupler to crack the pressure. You can't tilt it enough with a recessed coupler. You may have to resort to a needle. They're made for close quarters.

Those lock on couplings are 5/8 OD and won't fit into my recesses.
Digger, Regarding the pressure, it never drops off enough to release the fitting.
I have done all buy leave it on overnight!

Disassemble and remove the small check ball from the grease gun chuck. Removing it will not allow the grease gun to build up back pressure. You have to make sure to get the grease chuck on square to the grease zerk while pumping in the grease otherwise it makes a mess.

Maybe make up a short adapter (or buy one) that has the smaller 3 jaw coupler (for in the recess)
a short piece of 1/8" pipe, and then a normal zerk.

Pop off the grease gun from the adapter (leaving the adapter locked onto your troublesome fitting)
Then remove the adapter. You could also remove the check ball from the adapters Zerk, to dump
the pressure when you uncouple it.

Not removing the check ball in the coupler, then you have to press very hard to keep them engaged,
and with this fitting holding back pressure, it sounds like it will be hard to push in that hard.

    EDIT:
    Or, this:

Have you tried operating the chucks and closers a few times, .........movement of the greased joints moves the grease about and kills the back pressure.

Admittedly I've never tried it on chucks etc, but it's worked on everything else I've greased.

IME enough residual pressure to make removing the coupler difficult, usually means the fitting is plugged and grease did not get in anyway. Time to take it apart and make sure the grease gets through OTOH, last time this happened to me I jacked the truck up to take the load off the spring shackle and the grease went right through.

lol...no, i's got no problem getting my grease gun in the proper position, it's all about the injection of the grease. Too many SSRI's and too much stress/anxiety.

But if only you would have read the OP's problem, it was
AFTER injection, he can't get it to release.

Help me out here, Doug. Is that a reference to a Catherine Deneuve movie called "Belle du Jour"?
