Bolt lug area question

Hello everyone, can someone please explain to me how to determine the proper lug closing area on a bolt? On the A Look at Bolt Lug Strength - Lilja : Lilja the calculations are telling only about the width and the height of the bolt lugs, but not a single word about how to determine the proper lug closing area, or in other words, what should be the outer diameter of the bolt lugs, or how much they have to stick out?View attachment 330814lug area question.jpg

I'm not sure I understand your question, and the drawing doesn't conform to drafting standards.
But is it "L" that you are looking for?

You need to calculate the actual FORCE (thrust) that the system needs to resist including whatever safety factor you want to use. The lugs not only need to stay attached to the bolt but also need to remain in the elastic range for the contacting surfaces of bolt and receiver. That is where the area of the rear faces comes into play.

Simple arithmetic there.
