Buttress Thread Pitch on Mauser Bolt Shroud

Remove the shroud from the bolt and measure the spacing of five threads with a scale. Or count the number of threads in a half inch and multiply by 2. Expect it to be inch based spacing, not metric.

My Mausers are elsewhere or I would measure one.

Interesting point.....Brownells quote it as 13tpi,but a simple measurement shows this is not exact......the lead dimension is 2mm ,measured on an optical comparator.....there is also a Mauser drawing of the thread included in some books, but unfortunately the reproduction is not clear, despite a 20-1 detail of the thread.

My crude measurements were .457" for 6 threads, giving me an indication of 13.13 threads per inch.
Bear in mind the results all depend on my initial measurements. That were taken by an old man, with foggy glasses and while sleepy.

13 TPI is .07692" pitch; 2mm is .07874" pitch. I would go with the 13 TPI since Mausers were made on American-built machinery. The barrel tenon is 12 TPI as I recall.
