german cut rifling machine

An interesting design. Two things observed:

The barrel(s) turn while the rifling cutter/broach does not. And there is a "needle" (nadle) that causes the broach to extend out of a sleeve to cut on the pull stroke only. On the return stroke the needle extends out of the sleeve, the cutter retracts and then the sleeve goes back through the barrel.

The oil drip catches the cutter on both ends of the stroke.

And it is all mechanical.

Being from Calgary you would know Ron Smith and this is not a lot differnt then his other then this one automatic indexes and the the back end turns the cutter as pulls it through.. Where as he pulls his through by hand..

It would appear as though this one would have to have a fixed twist because its a geared head and Rons you can do gain twist if you desire being a cable drive.
very interesting video thnx for adding it..

Thanks for posting the link, I took the time to see everything on his site. Magnificent work and it's all in the family. He will be at the SCI Convention in Reno, NV this month.

Was wobbling on going or not, decision made. I'm going.

The cutter turns while being pulled through the barrel. The barrel only rotates to index for the next groove.
