Does anyone know anything good or bad about the drawings being sold for a 50 caliber rifle.

I recently bought a set of plans for the HyperDel-52 bolt action. The people there are quick to answer e-mails with any questions I had. The plans are great. Many pages. Drawing are professional, clear and detailed, printed on 11x17 paper. The gun design is much more intricate than the Maadi-Griffen or the Big 50 from Gun Metal designs. Looking forward to building it one day, it's just beyond me right now. If you decide to build it please post updates to inspire others. Also you might consider joining the Fifty Caliber Shooting Association. www.fcsa.org

Sam, can you tell from the drawings if the bolt locks directly to the barrel or does it lock to the aluminum receiver? I'm from the old school I guess. I think aluminum makes great airplanes but I get nervous when I see guns and wire made from it.

It's funny you should mention that. I wrote HyperDel about the use of aluminum as I was worried as well. As it turns out, the aluminum you see is the upper receiver. This acts as the bolt guide/ stock if you will. The lugs of the bolt actually lock into what they call a barrel extention. This piece is made of 4340 steel and threads onto the barrel. In the plans they dedicate three pages to this part alone. They say it's made in six steps and you need a wire edm.

The plans are 37 pages long.
    Hope that helps

Other plans can be had at:
    www.maadigriffin.com or
    Gunmetal designs (802)899-9958.

As well as the Hyperdel listed above, ALL of these plans are strong designs and seem to be a little over built for good measure.

Gunmetal designs has always been willing and able to help with any questions about his plans. I would buy a set from him, if I hadn't already done it...
