    Default JC Higgins model 30

My friend and I are working on a model 30 that needs to have the magazine tube and barrel reblued. The tube is held in position by dovetail mounts under the barrel. I want to remove the tube to sand it without clearance issues when its mounted under the barrel. The tube enters the front of the receiver, and I am hesitant to push the dovetail mount for fear I will bend the tube where it enters the receiver. I am also hesitant to try to drive the tube out of the receiver from the breach end. Do any of you know how to remove the tube on these?

Search Google using "JC Higgins model 30". You may find what you want there. Also search for High Standard model 30 who made the JC Higgins.

From looking at a parts schematic on Numrich there appears to be a retaining pin thru the front magazine mount. Also check the rear mount for a possible retaining screw in the bottom of the lug.

If it were me me working on this, I would drive that small pin out that is visible in your 3rd picture. I believe the mag tube will slide out then.
