I was wondering if it makes sense to do a light skim pass of the outside of the action while I have it chucked up for truing the face. Thanks.
Remington 700 to clean up and “perfect” before polishing

Ask yourself a question:

What am I trying to achieve by "to do a light skim pass of the outside of the action while I have it chucked up for truing the face."

And after thinking about that question, fill in the details about just what action face and how deep is a skim pass, and over what part of the outside of the action?

Are you truing the face on a M94 lever gun?

No reason to other than appearance. You also have a good chance of ruining the markings. The serial number has to be a minimum depth according to the ATF.

MG, thanks. Didn’t know about min depth. Just tying to perfect it as much as I can before polishing. Rem700 btw
