Looking at the cutting oil system on a vintage P&W 1/2B drill and was hoping someone could chime in on what is the working pressure of that system. My machine is basically original, with the telescopic tubes and original relief system. I'd estimate is is only a few hundred psi system.

I know today's standards for oil pressure at the drill are higher than 70 years ago, but I'd like to know what I'm starting with. This will help in the direction I take for upgrades, if they are actually needed. It has obviously drilled thousands of holes the way it is.

Thank you,

Dave

I recall reading something like 650-750 psi for the old P & W gun drills. Some systems go as high as 2000 psi oil pressure. It's also dependent on the size of hole you are drilling and how deep. A 22 caliber my require 2000 psi where 50 BMG may only require 750 psi. It's been nearly 40 years since I've been around gun drilling machines and have lost most of the knowledge I used to know.
