Im fairly new to machining and im working on an air valve for a paintball marker and want to make it from a 6061 or a 7000 searies alum. Stock valves are made from brass but im trying to take weight off the gun.

The psi shouldent excied 2000psi but just in case I want it to be able to hold at leaste 2500psi

Im thinking I can make the walls of the valve aout 1/4" what would the minamum safe thickness of the walls be?

Should I get it hard coated? Would hard coating strengthin the metal so I can make the walls thinner if needed?
