Cheaper and easier to start with a new barrel, contour as desired, then flute. Regards, Clark

A four axis VMC with a tailstock would make short work of it. If you have one laying around that is.

When you relieve the stresses by turning off the fluting the bore will warp like a silly straw. It's economically not worth it to try and re-contour a fluted barrel to remove the fluting, but it will also ruin any accuracy potential that the barrel had. Just get a new barrel.

Recontoured a fluted Hart barrel for myself once. Barrel is a tac driver. Light cuts with razor sharp insert worked great.

Might be a good idea to make a sleeve that you could slide onto the barrel, true, and let it ride in the steady rest. Unless you remove the fluting entirely, you will have ugly burrs left on the flutes.
