Forgive me if I am not hitting in the Black with this topic but I believe that I am on the paper.

Weatherby had some of their Mark V actions made in Japan. I have seen them and I can't really tell any difference.

I know that the Japanese can make very good guns, I have a Browning Model 81 BLR lever action. It's made like a Dial Indicator, in other words, actually too well made for a gun.

The Japanese Weatherbys sell for significantly less than the American ones, consequently I take that as a tacit disapproval.

Do any of you know the nature of the problem? Is it the Japanese-ness or is it the quality or is it some way related to design?

    JimK,
It's probably the same as the Belgian vs. Japanese Browning story.Same design and mostly interchangeable parts, same quality finish, different value.Go figure,Robert.
