Hi, I just picked up a 1998 HL-1 Haas today that is set up for 480V three phase but my shop is 240 three phase. A guy told me all Haas machines run off 240 and all I have to do is change the transformer in the machine to the 240 volt one and I'm good to go? Or should I just get a step up transformer to make my shop power go from 240 to 480? Thanks.

Yes majority of haas machines are 230v 3ph from the factory, UNLESS you have the optional high voltage transformer installed when you order it from the factory. According to them its not able to be installed in the field and that's why you have to order it when they build the machine.

Best guess is you will need a step-up transformer. You could call haas and see if they can convert it back but the separate external transformer will probably be cheaper. You can also ask for their recommendation on a transformer while you have them on the line if you go that route.
