Agreed, encoder and rs232 would not burn anything up. what would burn a motor up driver up is if someone used a macro forced output and didn't cancel it. that would cause the motor to want to drive while tool changer was locked by arm with the tool in it. I think what you have proposed is safe and should be a good start !

That' interesting. The air hoses that go to the tool changer were cracked, if the tool changer was commanded to change tools, it would move the y axis up into the carousel and then if the carousel didn't lift the away it would essentially be locked up. if there is no sensor for the carousel lift, that would have caused that problem.

Ok so it came with an extra chip, Im assuming this has to do with the motor gear reduction ratio. one says 40:1 the other says 20:1. Ill look at the original chip.

Hopefully its not how many tools the tool carousel holds.

The haas parts guy says it has to do with the gear reduction on the atc. So ill have to have a gander at it and see if its 40:1 or 20:1 or neither.

It says 20:1 right on the gear box, but there is a timing belt that is not 1:1 right after it.

also the reduction at the pulleys is probably more like 4:1

it should be the 20 to 1 as it should match the gearbox. there should be a parameter that is marked t.c. disabled.if its 1 change it to a 0. does the machine have a vector drive? if it doesn't and you cant find t.c. disabled. it may be called C axis disabled.

What about the baud rate settings and the aux axis sync?

no that is controlled rs232. that's for the early 5c indexer options on the early vertical machines. they use the same control for both vertical and horizontal. if I get time this evening I'll see if I have notes on it.

look at parameters 462 to 497 and see if anything looks odd. also If you don't have a original parameter list. call haas and they will email a list to compare it to what you have.

I emailed haas for the parameter list I couldn't find their phone line. I don't see any settings in that range.

The jog handle knobs have broken off on the pendant. but I should be able to find some encoders that will work. also this was caked in a black layer of dried coolant, and the cable inside was unplugged.

Haas direct phone number. 8052781800. that should be a 4 to 6 position selector switch. being you don't have 5th and 6th axis a 4 position should work fine.

Not looking good, they said on a machine that old they don't have the factory parameters. Im thinking If I could find someone who has one they could take some pictures of all of the parameter pages.

There must be some sort of documentation on the default settings.
