So, I just moved over to a new Company and i'm working with a 2001 VF5. So I have a memory issue right off the bat and told them in my interview that its a potential issue. I support 3 locations with this machine hence why I'm waiting on the Haas Tech right now to install my new Spindle Drive Assembly 6k well spent bearings were shot and this machine set for 2 years. Anyways the last 5 months I have been cleaning the machine getting it back into great shape, and now the Memory is becoming issue #1.
So I talked to Haas and I can upgrade to the next controller but its 15-20K. I'm not crazy I'd rather put that toward a new machine not in a almost 19 year old machine.
1 MB of memory currently with all the new CAD programs updating over the years and better tool paths this doesn't last long. I break up programs and drip feed when i have to but never liked doing. You can see this machine struggle at times with drip feeding being this old.
What are some way around the memory could I try and link an External device or hook it straight to the computer?
Right now i load from USB. Sorry I never ran into an issue like this because most shops would have it doing easy work or nasty work with a new guy running it. And we have the nice NGC with a Probe system with bells and whistles lol. Sorry for rambling just ready to get this machine running and slinging some chips I don't like downtime. So I'm asking this and working ahead on programs.
