I am having problems with my #1 RS-232 port sending programs. I'd like to try port#2, so how do you activate it for communications.

Thanks----Mike

On what?

Many computers that even have rs232 have one interface on the back and sometimes a connector inside for second.

Most use a chip that may have 2 ports that you can see in bios but no connection.

Easy to add additional, from card to usb, just need correct one.

This is a Haas forum, not a PC forum. I'm asking about Haas VF series mills. They all had two ports and all I have ever seen used was the top or #1 port. I want to try port #2.

Thanks

IIRC, port 2 is usually for a rotary box connection. i don't see why you couldn't physically swap the connections inside the cabinet for RS232 on #2

The upper RS-32 port is for I/O. The lower is for the 5th axis. One goes to J13 on the video board, the other 850 on the processor board.
Check the SIO and MSG LEDs on the processor board. Both normally On. Disconnect anything and reboot.
Check your RS-232 settings.
