What are the plugs on either side of the spindle?

It allows you to drain the coolant out of the head when you change out your coolant.
You can also add another coolant nozzle with either.

Thanks for the info. Just got a vf3 and it had a metal line coming out of the sheet metal for the coolant line so it made me wonder why they would even bother with that if you can just tap into those 2 outlets on the head.

Probably because if you left a line on overnight that was plumbed to either there would be no coolant in the head? You run a spindle warm up with no coolant in the head, and spindle possibly overheats. I think the metal line likely feeds from the top of the head, to make sure head has to be full before you get pressure at the tube.
