Ignore list management

This seems like the place to address board functional issues. If it's not, please move as required.

For quite awhile, the ignore list has been a helpful feature of this site, allowing me to enjoy the comments of most without extreme views, racist comments, etc. from disrupting that enjoyment.

Lately, a user who had earned a place on my list achieved a status which apparently negates my earlier choice.

Said user has two confirmed log-in names with another possible one, using just the widely-known first name. Multiple others are possible under non-obvious screen names, of course.

I understand the need for participants of a certain managerial status to be non-blockable, and have no quarrel there.

There are two areas of discussion...

First, should a user have a separate log-in for private participation, vs. managerial participation, so we know which hat is being worn? And should the private participation one remain blockable as in the past?

A second alternative -- should managerial blocking be possible in all areas except those in which said user has 'jurisdiction'? In other words, my blocking list is honored except in the specific forum user currently has managerial responsibilities.

I suppose either would suffice. Of course, there are quite a few other possible solutions as well.

Obviously, some contributions to this thread will be ignored.

I hear you, not being able to ignore a POS troll sucks. That is why I will now be here to take and not contribute.
I will look for work or items to buy only. I just think it is odd they made a previously banned POS a mod. Makes no sense other than it could drive up more attention to PM and increase ad revenue. Who knows??

Good some are gone.. the ignore is/was a personal device for ones own use.. not a smear somebody thread..likely if a post gets a number of reasonable complaints then the site owner or moderator can erase it..

Not many ever STAY on my "ignore" list for long. Perfectly understand the reverse is not equally true!

But WTH? If yah cannot put a perennial world-class meteoric proctology modalaggravator on "ignore", why bother to even HAVE the list feature at all?

FWIW-not-hard-at-all, SEPARATE UID for personal use and "functional ROLE" use is the school answer since forever-ago, this forum, any other, or many nuthin' to do with the internet in any way atall things.

would this be a good time to offer some cheese?
Gw

You could CUT the cheese. Whenever it feels good.

One of the nicer things about the internet.

Yah think what's hittin' your screen and eyeballs is offensive? At least it ain't yer NOSE!

Not until the advert-hoorial classes figure out how to convey smells so as to hook folks on fast-foodstuffs. Or maybe porn?

:(

I have contributed plenty around here, back when donations were taken to avoid ads I kicked in $100. I think the total collected was $800. I even bought a machine off of Milacron to the tune of $12k. To think PM has evolved to the point where they allow a POS troll who was banned for a while as a mod is beyond me. Also the for sale section which used to give preference to contributing members has turned into free E-bay. This place used to be a close knit community, it isn't anymore, FTS.

Most things are determined by the forum software, which is used but not created by PM.

Therefore I think the idea of a separate login for personal vs moderator duty is probably the only solution.

BUT ...... AFAIK this is only aimed at one moderator whom not all of us feel the need to block so IMO this change would unfairly impose a burden on the other moderators so my suggestion is learn to scroll quickly past posts you don't care for as soon as you spot "that" username.

. . . my suggestion is learn to scroll quickly past posts you don't care for as soon as you spot "that" username.

Agreed and easy enough to do. Don't think a poster adds to the discussion? Don't reply to his/her posts. And take a tiny fraction of a second to skip over those that intervene in any thread.

Many hands have assisted. Why would we not if we could do?

Offred to BUILD him a better server at one point. Within my skillset to take it TF off ph-insecurable pee onto better tools and FAR better Object Relation DBMS.

Not hard. Depends on what you are used to doing. Surely had a lot of Day Job years involving all that.

DID mirror the old site "just in case" when one of the earlier major server changes was afoot.

Makes no never-mind.

Time moves on.

PM don't "OWE" me anything. Even the machinery bought from Don was the ordinary commercial transaction, not philantrophy. Both parties got what they bargained for. Done deal and move-on.

There ain't no "pension plan" in that. For either side. Nor HERE either.

Same as a well-traveled commuter highway. They change lane layout, add stoplights, re-pave, or let the potholes grow?

Can't change that. Deal with it as it is, any given day.

Take another route to work when yah cannot or will not. Whining over what usta bee is but a waste of time and blood sugar, the sort of pissing and moaning as actually makes yah need to piss more, not less. Metabolic thing, that is.

BFD.

My point was I am more than an anonymous Joe Schmo off the street. There are a lot of people on here that are posers. I suppose by now the point is moot. I think this place has went in the toilet, and I will just lurk and not contribute.

If you believe it so, for YOU it has to BE so. Your life. Your call. Revolving doors tend to hit EVER' body in the ass, equally, coming or going, either way, after all.

Even so... whole lot more in need of repair, lower 48 than PM's minor glitches.

"And take a tiny fraction of a second to skip over those that intervene in any thread."

Scrolled by for years, so I know the drill.
Blocked for years. Life was good.
Then one day block no longer works.
Understand it's not PM-specific software.
Quest for solutions will continue.

I could care less about the "glitch", it is the fact they made an annoying previously banned troll a mod. The fact quite a few long time contributing members can't stand the guy is common knowledge. The guy gets great joy out of annoying people, people like that should not have an authority over anything. The first couple days as a mod he was threatening and calling out people right and left, what a shock. This place tolerates more crap than any other forum I have belonged to, it takes a lot to get banned from here.

It's pretty obvious that many members here want the guy gone, and I've never seen anyone give a good reason for him to stay.

My only guess was somehow his excessive posting and annoying people drives up the activity here which has some kind of financial benefit through ad revenue. What else could it be? For the record I have no idea how selling ads on a website works.
