Hi, does anyone have any literature on how to breakdown the part number on New Departure bearings? I am looking to replace some bearings in the head of my Wells-Index and I am not having much luck.

The bearing in question is called out as: 73L09 x RIC in the parts breakdown. This bearing is in the upper spindle drive sheave. I know on my Bridgeport they were standard ball bearings.

I have have found that a 73L09 is the ND callout for a 3L09 bearing, which is also a 6009 series bearing.

Thanks!

The "73" indicates shield on one side of the bearing. If it was "773" this would be a double shielded bearing. It is a "extra light series" bearing according to my bearing interchange manual. 6009 is the correct bearing series to todays standard. Just need one with seal on one side of the bearing instead of a shield. I have this same bearing on the upper end of my Index mill, too. Ken
