    Did a little scraping...........ATW castings seem like they are going to put up quite a fight.
    If the "space" those filler strips fit into is parallel, there might be NO machining at all, just sharp shears and de-burr. Bronze shim - also Stainless Steel - can be had in most any thickness, is usually "stackable", otherwise "peelable" in removable layers to come DOWN to a thickness.

    Have a look. See if either of those could suit a place of this sort.

    MMC has it. They are not alone.
