Recently acquired 1998 5bvk cnc mill, similar to hurco kmp5 but mine was from kent usa. Turcite pieces have come off both at the table and saddle. Kent was unable to provide any docs so I don't know what the original thickness was. I am considering getting a rebuilder to do the repair but also maybe tackling this myself not only to develop a new skill but also for future repairs (I have 2 lathes that should get turcite in the near future). I figured the many here with experience could share their perspective on the benefits and drawbacks on the options.

turcite is not just glued on. it requires machining to precision tolerances after gluing normally. in theory you can hand scrape it too.
.
common misconception turcite just glued on and thats it. i usually machine it to .0002" or .0003" tolerances
.
always check lube holes not plugged when turcite replaced. obviously if no oil and it can get hot if machine moves fast turcite life will be short
