    I'm just trying to imagine what a 20 horsepower cut on 2 1/2 inch barstock sounds like in action.

    Y'know, from the manuial lathe side of the house that sounds like either Sears came up with the rating, or it's a 5 HP lathe, more or less.

    I can't say what a 20 HP Haas will do, but a 20 HP Mazak will remove 11 pounds of 1018 in about 2 minutes, and it sounds like a hail storm. That is turning a 4" diameter slug not a bar though.

    The WSC-32 slant bed I found for JrIowa (he posted the details of having it rebuilt)
    Has a 150 hp spindle drive motor on it.

    He said it's main job was removing Inconel weld overlay.
