Usually people try to show their best side in an ad and this fool demonstrates he will clamp down on threads with a 3-jaw to do turning while using the wrong tool. I wonder what he does that he isn't proud of.

You guys (and myself) make fun of the seller attempts.

But believe me, the "buyers are worse".

Had a Lawyer call me from new york. I would expect that if you can pass undergrad. law school, and the bar you could put some effort into your life and not be a jerk. But........

He called me up, the ad title says Mebane, The top of it says Raleigh region. He has my phone number with area code. "where are you" I am in mebane NC. "well how the hell am I supposed to know that?" Well did you bother to google anything after READING the ad?

It got so much worse, rude, abusive, combative, angry. It quickly became apparent that he had no interest in buying anything. He was bored, scared, and lonely and simply wanted to make everyone else just as miserable.

Thats it. You treat others as you hope to be treated. (you hope to reap what you sow, the first hard lesson of life). In other words dont be a jerk. That is so rare on craigslist that it is shocking. I had a friend that tried to use CL for dating years ago when it was better. He would forward me some of the responses. It was horrible. Worse then horrible.

Want to see fantasy land just try the Seattle WA Craigslist.

Any working mill or lathe is worth 4 or 5k or more. Even the little craftsman/atlas lathes go for 2k or even more.

I live in central wa and have been pulling my hair out trying to find an affordable Bridgeport for the last 3 yrs.

Finally decided I'm just going to drive 3 states away if I have to in order to get one.

I put up a help wanted ad for a local machinist to help me rebuild a large bench top mill as I needed to make a new mount for the head. Some fool mounted a Bridgeport J head on a large bench top mill and did a crappy job of it. Found that locally for sale at a moving sale listed in the newspaper and paid 225 for it.

Guy contacted me and said I could use his mill to do what ever I wanted or he would sell me a 1961 half worn out Bridgeport base that presently has an M head but that would take a J head if I wanted. Turns out guy is a retired machinist and amateur machinery dealer and just lives a few miles from me.

Went over and took a look at the Bridgeport and ended up buying the base minus head for 600.00, then went back a week later and bought the M head for 200 so I could mount it on my benchtop base and sell it as a working baby Bridgeport bench top mill.

My J head bolted right up to the Bridgeport base.

So now I finally got an affordable Bridgeport with 32" table perfect size for my garage. Ways are not great but she makes good parts and I'm into it for less then 1000.

If I wanted to just turn it for profit, I could list this thing on Craigslist for 3500 or 4000 according to what Bridgeports normally go for here in wa, specially on the seattle area or as we in central wa like to call it lala land [].

Suggestion for people like me who are broke but still want a decent deal on a mill or lathe or any related equipment, post on Craigslist asking for help from local machinist, it seems we as machinist are willing to treat each other far better then the re-sellers usually do. Most of the people selling machinery have bought it from a auction or estate sale and are reselling for profit so your not going to get anything but sky high prices around here. If something does come up for a decent price it is gone in minutes, then it pops back up a week later for triple the price.

I am presently in need of a rotary table so I posted a wanted ad and have already been contacted by one guy with a 15" Bridgeport rotary table for $450 but it is too big, so I'm still looking. Hope to find one soon I can afford and be able to lift without a crane.

    Bob

OUCH! Is that "tool" something that would be used by interrogators in countries where the only rights you have are to do as you're told - or else?
