I am kicking around the idea of trying to find a hardinge lathe with a omniturn retrofit. A small cnc to play with that can also mount a Chuck and collet closer. For small work. Seems like the omniturn on a hardinge chucker would fit the bill. And omniturn seems pretty friendly in helping people out with problems. Need to stay under 5 hp for power reasons. Weight and size also a factor. I know some love them some hate them, but for me I think it would fit the bill.
My budget would be 3500 max, but prefer cheaper. is this doable for an older setup. I've seen a couple cheaper 1500 but could not look at them. and on eBay their prices are all over the place. How common are they. If I hold out and watch local machine shop auctions will they pop up. Don't want a project or hunk of junk either, but don't expect a like new one for my price.
Are they common enough for me to actively look. Does anyone know of one say within 8 hours of St. Louis.
