Looking for a small cnc lathe, turret lathe or gang tool lathe, probably 5hp spindle motor machine, I only have a 10hp rotary phase converter to power the machine. Barfeeder would be nice, air collet closer or air collet chuck a must. Really would like to find something within a days drive from northwest Texas, looking to make a purchase within the next 90 days or sooner. Just want something reliable for my first cnc lathe, budget is 5 to 7.

In my opinion you can't beat an omniturn. See omniturn.com
You can buy a used one for 5-7, no problem. I run three of them, 2 on hardinge machines and a GT75.

That’s really what I want to buy for my first cnc, problem is I can’t find one closer than a 1,000 miles away from Me in Texas! I really want to check out a machine in person when I buy it.

cnc gang lathes

I have a few I am selling and are still under power

1 Hardinge CONQUEST GT
2 HARDINGE CHNC with FAGOR CONTROL AND ACCUSLIDE
3 HARDINGE HC WITH OMNI TURN Control

I am in Wisconsin about 1100miles from Houston

If I was a 40 year old CNC rookie I think I would try to buy a machine with a Fanuc controller. First they are probably the most popular with the knowledge base here, whether it be programming or repair. Also since you are looking lower budget used, parts and support are still readily available, all the way back to the 40 year old 3T series.

Hey Bob, I appreciate your opinion! however for my first cnc lathe, I want something small, I hear Omniturn support is good, and they make parts for machines back to there first version from the early 1990's. Not too mention I haven't found any small slant bed style turret cnc lathe that has a 5hp spindle motor. If I could find a Okuma LB6 close to me, that would work, it has a 5hp spindle motor.

got a GT75 ominturn that I'm sells as a parts machine
needs spindle bearings, but the rest of it works for $2500
a little bit farther away though.

they will run on single phase power, control plugs into 110
motor is 220

Is an Omni turn a control system you can retrofit, an actual complete machine or both? I always thought they were a control that people put on Hardinge HCT's or similar to make a homemade CNC.

Yes they used to sell the retrofit kit last year, but now only selling the own omniturn machines and selling parts for omniturn controls and machines

I talked with the guy above about the omniturn a few weeks of texting, and he would never give me an asking price so I moved on. He had the machine with fagor control on both eBay and craigslist, not sure if he still does.
