Farmer near me had three big billboard size solar arrays mounted on huge vertical posts with automatic tracking. after five years or so they are locked in place with cables to the lower corners. I guess the gear boxes or bearings failed.
Several years ago in California a dam switched grease in the flood gate operating gearbox and linkage. One stuck open after testing and stayed flooding for about one month before they could get it to close.
