I like visiting industrial ruins and obsolete tech like your canal system so it's probably fine for me. It would be nice to be able to speak the local language, though.

I know it won't happen because our lot don't give a fook, but i'd sooner UK tax money be put into the UK NHS/Schools/Roads/Welfare etc.

Balance of lies was fairly even. As usual.

Folks ain't as stupid as their political "leadership", ANY "side".

Not sure that would even be POSSIBLE, would it?

Well no, "wise" use of "public funds" isn't the least wit more likely, is it? "They" generally find many ways for it to be squandered, regardless.

But to the good? WHATEVER funds are squandered WITHIN Blighty's borders go to another set of UK hands. And THOSE hands have to spend their loot on "something", and more likely "local something" for at least a major part of it than not.

Each successive pair of hands, there's yet-another chance for a wiser decision, if only out of stark necessity. Same in most jurisdictions, yah?

So "worst case", it still beats it going into the same sort of trickle-down through multiple hands a thousand miles OUTSIDE of Blighty's shared-out net benefit zone, where it can NEVER be "recycled", let alone "shared, again", with the tax-"pray-ers" who put it IN, no?

Life's unfair? Some bitch and moan. Others just grab a longer-handled spoon.

Things quiet in your shop Doug ? " Escape to the country " ? There's another show ( Grand Designs ) where youngish people spend a fortune on building ultra modern homes. Where they get their money from I just don't know. They always run well over budget and behind schedule and nothing seems to happen to them !

    Regards Tyrone

    Thats the easy bit

It starts with them offering a bank their promissory note (ask bank for a loan). If the bank chooses to buy their security (decides to give them a loan), it will type the numbers into their account, and then they have money. If they dont keep up with repayments the bank may foreclose on the property (take ownership of the house and pursue any further monies).

And the guy who fronted Grand Designs stitched a lotta folk right up by one of his companies going broke, - IMO because he's no idea of the harsh financial realities.

From ;- Kevin McCloud - Wikipedia

    ''Developer[edit]
In early 2007 he created HAB Housing Limited, ("Happiness, Architecture, Beauty"). McCloud led a consortium to purchase two plots of land to build a HAB housing development on the outskirts of Swindon, Wiltshire.[7]
In October 2009, it was announced that HAB Oakus, a joint venture between HAB and housing group GreenSquare, had won planning permission for its first housing scheme in Swindon. The 42-home scheme, called The Triangle, would occupy the site of a former caravan park.[8] Housing will be "environmentally sustainable, affordable". The Homes And Communities Agency, a UK national housing and regeneration agency, had already announced in April 2010 that it would back the plans by contributing £2.5m.[9] Construction of the development was completed late in 2011. The process was filmed and broadcast as part of a Grand Designs special two-part episode called Kevin's Grand Design. A website was set up about the project.[10]
In September 2013, HAB broke the world record for equity crowdfunding by securing investments in excess of £1.9 million from members of the public via online platform Crowdcube, beating the previous record of £1.5 million with pledges of £1,904,540.[11]
In August 2019 it was reported that no money has been paid back to HAB investors who faced potentially losing 97% of their investment. Problems with other schemes he promoted were also reported.''

Dunno about that ,LS....crowdfunding ,coupla million quid from starry eyed idealists ,never risked a penny of his own ,...Id reckon he s got a pretty good grasp of finance in the age of the millenial.....Personally ,I like the guy s programs ....he s always poking fun at the insane size of the houses these tossers build.....Would I put money into his schemes ...not on yer nellie..........think about it ....failed beginner building is a better telly spectacle than a smooth professional job.
