A crook got caught in falsifying paperwork, via multiple companies, to avoid taxes.
1.8B$ in taxes aka import duties in this case.

    So what ?
Just because the crook is chinese, in this case, has no bearing on the chinese people or chinese trade overall.

I believe US chinese trade is 787B$ ++, per year.
    2B$ over 5 years, 0.4B/yr, == 0.05 % of total.

    The crook is in china.

China has a long trackrecord of hating public humiliation and wrong-doing in public.
The crook will likely be caught by the chinese authorities,
forced (aka tortured) to confess over weeks of inhuman interrogation,
    sentenced to death,
    executed.
Within less than 6 months, typically.

Even when the crime did not happen in china, and might not be illegal in chinese law.
Public humiliation internationally tends to mean drastic measures from chinese authorities, no matter what, or whom, or political position, or wealth.

I very much dislike the market manipulations and tax-loss stealing like the chinese tycoon did.
And one getting to be a billionare on stolen US tax revenue.
This is what he did, essentially.
Wealth 2.8B$, tax fraud 1.8B$, rest was made from the cash in the stolen tax revenue.
(No matter what country one is from).

I don´t think anyone should ever be tortured, like in chinese interrogations.
Or US military/CIA "black sites", for that matter.
    Or latam police detentions.
I think in general executing people is a Bad Idea.
    In general, not in specifics.

The economic chinese crooks, or us crooks, would be much better serving the state until their natural death.
They sometimes/often/usually have huge experience and skills that could greatly benefit the state.

It is, imho, wrong to execute a criminal, when getting the benefit of their skills might benefit the state 3M$ over 20 years.
In say teaching economics, international trade, languages, endless stuff.

But, otoh, where someone must or should be executed, the chinese system is right.
Fast trial, fast appeal, 15 days.
    Execution, done.

Always enjoy hearing from the resident PRC Party leader. At the very least businesses in the US have to worry about some form of consequences no matter how minor they might actually be. A Chinese company could sell pacifiers made from asbestos and lead and the worst they would have to deal with is some bad press on their business that magically went bankrupt and disappeared so they can start the next toxin laden adventure.

    Gotta be kidding!

They are not my favourite people, but they have far higher standards that to employ an unreliable-Putinite-troll as cannot remember from one day to the next whether Gavin Spewsome or Kim Jong Buns is his client.

Sure, but there are well recognized business culture difference that make it much more prevalent. Aside from personal knowledge (education, personal experience and accounts of former Chinese nationals now working with me), the book "Poorly Made in China" presents imo a good discourse on this. Its by an American expat who's lived in China for decades and who's business it was to help foriegn firms do business there - arguably a unique position from which to compare business cultures. Its not some BS fueled by xenophobia or racism, its a real difference in business cultures that any person experienced and skilled in global business environment knows.

I'd suggest you (Edit **** ** *****) but I'd probly catch something ... acts are enforced as if they were legal but in reality, they are not legal until tested before the Supreme Court. Even then there are obvious miscarriages of justice - Dred Scott and Plessey vs Ferguson for two examples.

The fact that the goobermint can enforce their acts at gunpoint does not make them legal. In theory the Supreme Court is where legality is decided. Even then, there are miscarriages.

Just because Congress passes some piece of legislation does not mean that it is legal, ethical, or moral.

Just how stupid are you and your fellow St Petersburg Putin-bots?

    Let's see:

"Natural Law" morphs into common law and statute Law that supports a homeowner's use of lethal force in defending himself and/or family.

You.. think someone following your nonsense breaks a house, has a close encounter of the terminal kind with a coupla tubes of #1 buck, 12-bore, high-brass.. and his corpse will come back to life off a Supreme Court decision, eight years later?

    Bu Ci

Law works well-enough without even need of a County or State Appeals Court, let alone SCOTUS, involved.

Same-again, so-called "white collar"crime, no blood involved. Plenty of that lot in jails as well.

US government to investigate if Chinese steel is evading tariffs -
    Nikkei Asian Review

I don't doubt it. Customs isn't stupid, either. They look for things like imports rising from another country that match flows from a country with dumping duties, etc. Here's a video explaining that. This guy has a whole slew of videos that cover the trade law and customs topic that go way, way beyond what you will see in any news publication.

That'll never work. I tried the same thing when I changed the name of my company from "ACME Machine" to "Not-ACME Machine", but I still got the damn bills...

I think it's the same guy who ordered the 4th of July parade in his own honor. But heck, the miasma of treachery and lies that's been coming from the White House the last couple of years has dimmed my eyesight and memory...

And "Greenland"? I think Trump wants to build a casino there once GCC really takes effect and makes the island match its name.

Any attempt at country of origin, taxes or tariff is going to bring out the grey market.
Profits to be made and somebody will fill the void taking their percentage.
If anything all this fuels illegal or shady trade.
