Separation preserves the important-to-PM advert click-throughs. I respect that need. After all, I don't get ANY adverts presented anywhere on PM but those they serve off the almost-never-visited "home" page.

That has little to do with PM. It was already in-place before I joined. I keep all known advert feeds blocked as a matter of routine, no matter the website. My bandwidth serves easily ten times as fast that way for the same out of pocket spend when not being stolen for some other entity's use.

"reading" is not a burden for a page-at-a-glance reader,'puter loading advert-free screens, custom page format, not quite PM/VB stock, in as little as a tenth or two of a second.

It's "the usual human failing" - guilty, it is in the record - of wishing to respond, being limited to text, rather than a klewbat. I don't think I type more than mebbe 70 WPM, but a tiny fraction of reading speed.

The suggestion was for the benefit of others who do not have the speed of the screen I do.

Nor am I a "speed reader". A pocket novel takes and hour or two, which is not at all fast. Just test in the high 90's percent on retention. Whether I want to remember the material or not.

    To each, his own.
At least now I understand why you're so active in so many threads and sub fora.

I participate in threads that interest me but otherwise don't open any threads unless the thread title arouses my curiosity.

No, just say what you meant in about 2 sentences. My eyes glazed over and I gave up shortly after starting.

    Volubility and garrulity.

I took a speed reading class long ago, ½ a day a week for 6 months and company funded. I ended up being able to read 2,850 words a minute. Each book read was followed up by a test and I averaged around 80% correct answers. The main disadvantage with speed reading is that what was read gets forgotten after a short period of time. Usually days. Great for exams.

I still read faster than average but not as fast as I did. I can only speak for myself but the times I read thermites posts often they are just words strung together without making sense or relevance to the thread. At other times they are relevant but feel condescending to whoever is asking a question.

There's no doubt someone like monarchist is knowledgeable but he could be much more helpful than he chooses to be.

Should not have taken the "speed" reading course.

On the evidence you just submitted, it would appear that the "forgotten after" period has shortened - perhaps with age? - until it is happening concurrent with, if not actually AHEAD OF the reading.

NOT forgetting is far the greater curse. DAMHIKT

I'll stick to this as my answer to your post.

"There's no doubt someone like monarchist (I should have written "thermite" ) is knowledgeable but he could be much more helpful than he chooses to be."

    OTOH it applies to "both".

Nope - just replying to converterking.

You still bitter that the old moderator stripped out your post count, so trying to get it back up there?

Can't see those when he's on "ignore", but ISTR they go-away if the posts as were "liked" go away.

For-sure, JW or I have each seen eighty or a hundred vanish in a single day.

You ever DRIVE in Poland? "Most of it", not just a motorway shoot-through?

HowintheHell can you invade a country when drivers both direction use whichever side of the roadway as has the best pavement for that ten-yard patch, tracking left and right to follow it like competing snakes in a medieval jousting run?

"Rules of the road" simply that the lighter vehicle jouks for the weeds, heavy one holds right-of-way.

Kinda like West Virginia, but flat.

Hadn't yet happened, last trips to Poland when I was "off the beaten track". I've surely seen it, Costa Verde - and not-only - in Spain.

Downside to it being that Europe's size & shape is actually very amenable to fast rail travel, far more efficient as it is, too. Despite which, they seem to be copying the mistake USA made coming off War Two and pushing motorways more heavily than is long-term wise.

Even China has been doing it. "Status" thing to have a motorcar so one can sit FOUR HOURS in traffic rather than be the same somewhere in under an hour by rail. Or even ferry or river-ferry.

When we first bought the villa in Zhongshan, we've go upriver from Hong Kong not on a catamaran or hydrofail as we use to Macao, but a hovercraft, navigation was that dodgy.

Now, either of Zhongshan or Zhuhai/Macao can be reached by the new bridge. If you don't mind the trip taking LONGER.
