BBC "World Service" was once legendary-good. Current incarnation puts me to sleep. Nothing THERE but sports that isn't already half-a-day stale vs more alert feeds.

Fox is a Murdoch property. 'nuf said.

And yet.. bad as it may be, all of our other US feeds are actually far WORSE! CNN is even heading for economic fail, absent being propped-up by a new parent.

Seems they all went hard left 'coz it was the more numerous headcount. And forgot the "free everything" crowd are mostly the born-yesterdays who don't pay now, nor want to pay in future to have "for fee" cable news any more than they want to pay for their own meals.

Go figure HTF they MISSED that all the while trying to help implement more of it.

Time for me to make my exit. This is already going down the rabbit hole.

Appreciate your stepping up to this challenge, Hanermo.

FWIW, I personally don't like to see posts or threads edited or deleted. Seems more transparent (at least to me) to close a thread, leaving the offending post there.

Someone ends up out of bounds too often for something like personal attacks or over-the-top trolling -- then a ban might be in order.

In any case, I suspect you'll do an excellent job. Useful, too, in a thread that's supposed to include manufacturing the world round, that you're from another part of it and with experience in several countries.

Too many threads in this sub forum would be closed because of just a few members. IMO just better to delete and we can see who's "crossing the moderator's line".

Pity the usual few have gone back to making this more a chatroom than information, help and discussions.

You are right Gordon. Maybe we should all talk about speed reading.

Lets see if I got this straight. In a thread started by the new moderator(which was sorely, sorely needed) who as far as I can tell has never called anybody out on their views and also has never insulted anyone, has devolved into baiting by the usual suspects.

That didn't take long. Way to go, y'all.

Don't get me wrong.I still enjoy reading this sub forum to see what the rest of world is experiencing it's just that 95% of the posts have nothing to do with what it's supposed to be about.

Well, that surely took you a while to recognise, but better late than never.

Thanks for finally acknowledging that spinit had done you a great and good favour.

Snide comments again from the king of commenting on everything

I signed up to here in 2007 because I was TOLD to by the late (and great) Mark McGrath (RIP). Yes, TOLD to
I'd just started my business and I'd just bought a Warner Swasey WSC6 CNC lathe, and he was the guru that helped me.
At the time, I'd never heard of PM - but I'm so glad I listened to Mark and signed-up.
Over the years I have got out of this site far more than I contributed.
Purely because this site is so big, and there are so many great contributors.
Everyone knows a lot about a subject, even a small subject.
No-one knows everything about everything. Not even Gordon...
And this is why this site shines.
And just as it is at work, it's all about the people. It always is.
If work goes smooth, it's because of people.
    If it's a ballache, it's because it's people.
But the biggest asset to this site is exactly that - the people.
I can understand the aim to keep threads on topic in the technical forums (like the CNC with a specific fault/problem), but I love when they drift (like the Haas UMC500 thread) because so much more info starts to be talked about.
EVERYONE has their own experiences and only a fool doesn't listen.
You don't have to act on it, or you can tick it off as BS ( ), but it's always good to listen IMO. That's how we learn, because everyday's a school day.

Han, you'll do a great job and I echo what PeteM said.

95% and improving by the year.

    Check your history.

One of our now-departed - and widely lamented - members, wise in the ways of his fellow man, novated this forum, deceptive title and all [1] a-purpose to draw off the noisemakers so the technical side of PM could survive and enjoy some measure of peace, quiet, and even - now and then, anyway - sanity.

Brilliant move, if only because it has worked exactly as expected.

Even his living elegy thread was more about Gordon than it was about RJ.

This forum still serves its original purpose - same as citronella torches, insect traps, patio fans, and UV bug light zappers at a backyard barbeque:

Keeping the mosquitoes outta the beer, and the horseflies off everybody else's meat, bean soup, 'tater salad, fries, and watermelon.

Some arrive as insects. Others tote flyswatters. Still others bring just enough bait-food so's they don't wander-off, avoid the zap lights, and get up to far worse mischief where it actually matters.

pro bono commune- that herding of cats, rats, dinosaurs, and horseflies for advert-clicks as funded the real work.

    QED

[1] At what point, ever, was PM NOT about "Manufacturing in .. " ...the whole daggone known universe? Not just "America and Europe". Title was bug-bait. And lego-troll lure. Cashed-in for clickbait. Keep it clucking. Never mind the chickenshit. We need the damned eggs.

Well sure. It depends on what they are drinking or using on any given day. After some years here, I have to believe that some of the postings are influenced by an excess of malt brewed beverages, artificially-flavored grain neutral spirits, naturally grown herbs or other assorted chemicals.

    Aye.

The most troublesome "chemical" seems to be a mix of Ethanol and Muriatic Acid, certain days....

Wouldn't much mind, "Chinese Type Medicine" opportunists hadna' put it up with red and gold labels and sold it as a remedy for crotch rot.
