Default OT – Banned? Who me?

Regard this thread/post as information only. If it leads to a rational discussion then good, if not then nothing will change.

3 weeks or so ago when I tried to post I was met with this message.

You have been banned for the following reason:
    No reason was specified.
Date the ban will be lifted: Never

Apparently too thousands of posts just vanished and not just mine. They have since returned.

Mostly because of PM members messages to Don (Milacron) and the thread started by Ox he (Don) became aware of the ban. Don lifted the ban but it could be of interest to some if Spinit gave his version of what went on and why.

What some of you should ask yourself, and I’m asking myself the same question, is there any point in returning? Re Manufacturing in America and Europe of course politics come into play as what any country does almost always affects other countries. In this sub forum though politics goes to extremes and everything either seems to become “if you are in favour of the one then you must be against the other”. Real life isn’t like that as there is almost nothing that is either black or white.

Add to that the fact that the moderator leans heavily to the one side in those types of issues. If Spinit was a “mere” member I’d have no problem with him expressing his views but as moderator then I believe “Silence is golden”.

When should a moderator intervene? Again there is no unequivocal answer to that but almost everywhere else in PM moderators don’t seem to have a problem moderating. Deleting posts that are personal attacks or blatant spam would certainly be a good start as the PM I joined almost a decade ago was without a doubt the best forum of its kind on the internet. It still is excellent.

OK I’ve said my piece so let’s just see what happens but again my thanks to those that, for whatever reason, objected to my ban. Yes I can be provocative but hopefully never malicious.

My take is that threads should be closed, but not deleted, when there is a personal attack. And if someone causes three threads to be closed - then they're banned.

Seems to me, Gordon, that while you may like to stir the pot, you're rarely if ever the source of personal attacks. And it's easy enough not to ignore a thread that's going nowhere.

One of the things I like about the Manufacturing etc. sub-forum is the diversity of opinion; especially when it is factually supported.

You see, Gordon, although we have similar views on some matters (not many), I firmly believe that you should've been banned long ago. In my opinion, you're a troll and provocateur and enjoy being disruptive to the forum. This is about all you do here for the last few years including this very thread.

It was always strange to me that a person of your age would be making an ass of himself. Especially, after seeing how many people including your harsh opponents prayed for you when you were ill. Now, after some nice (and naive)guys helped lifting your ban, you came back and started to stirr the pot again. IMHO, what you do is simply appalling.

Sorry if it sounded harsh, but that's how I see the situation.

Due to health issues I was MIA here for a while. When I did come back and found out you were banned, It kind of surprised me, but then it shouldn't have. Glad you are back. I have always defended you and your right to speak.

I think what most people found objectionable to some of your posts was you pointed out some of the United States deficiencies. Some people don't do criticism so well.

As I pointed out in another thread,I could see this coming. Spinit isn't thick skinned enough to be able to be an impartial moderator. Being able to dispose of your enemies reminds him of his hero.

Welcome back. I'm one of the "naive" (I'm not nice though) people who thought your ban was inappropriate, I'm glad it's been reversed.

I also will note that while GBC can/has been/and likely will be provocative, it's good to recognize that it takes two (or more) to start a fight. Bulls can go visit the china shop if they wish, they don't have to run after the red cape. Some people could doo (apologies to Ox) with a little introspection on why they're so easily riled up.

Gordon, you can choose to be a little less contentious, but I for one didn't see anything "wrong" with the OP, it was a pretty clear statement on some of the dynamics of this forum. One of the first repliers did. For that person to call for a ban (again) says much more more about him.

In the future I will hope that Spinit will consult with others before using the ban. He is clearly partisan, and while I have no issue with that, I do with him exercising his powers in a way that nakedly shows it. Or perhaps there must be a dual-moderator for this place, with someone on the "other side" acting as a balance.

I've almost forgotten how to spell "peace" There is ongoing wars and of different type.
People can have and will have their opinion...but really..I don't need some great machinist across the globe telling me what is happening in my backyard. I wouldn't tell him that either.

The only thing I would question Gordon, is that you openly argued with spinit over his moderation. I did not see it as a worthy of banning, but, personally I thought it would have been better done in private. I have no idea what actually caused the ban, and have not seen anything I considered ban worthy.

It is the internet people, having cut my online teeth on the usenet, this is all child's play.

If one cannot take criticism, disagreement, being proven wrong, being proven right but no one caring, then maybe you should be reading Harry Potter books or something less stressful.

    [Oh, and welcome back]

I find the OPs posts SO redundant and predictable.....I'd rather get a BJ from a Piranha then read another.

That being said i'm not aware of one member I personally would have banned, that has been. Words on a screen shouldn't bring such actions, I think someone would have to go very far to constitute banning.

I guess the question is what constitutes "too far"? In my mind nothing. But this isn't my forum, so that decision isn't mine to make. Members opinions on the subject are worth nothing.

Just like Twitter/IG/Etc have banned speech they don't like(and it leans one certain direction)....A private forum has the right to do the same.

We have free speech in the public arena, but not in the private. Private businesses should have the right to ban anyone, anytime, for any reason.

    I kid not.

Having seen a few go down this rabbit hole, Gordo is exhibiting
    the symptoms clearly & distinctly.

Oh, he WILL deny it, they always doo.

But go back and read the archives, and see the demise take hold.

Gordon- we have clashed numerous times, but for you to be banned was bullshit. Typical right wing behavior, censoring and shutting down the voices of those who refuse to kowtow to them and their jack-booted Nazi thug beliefs.Sounds like China or Russia.

That's a silly thing to say, and beneath you (I hope!). I see more lucidity in his posts then in some of yours, quite frankly.

This thread has become sadly predictable. I have a few members (4 or 5) on “ignore” either because I don’t like what they post or they excel in writing personal insults and not just to me.

I also have some I choose not to read what they post when possible and I’d never dream of reading any thread they started much less trashing/trolling it.

There are those that my threads and posts seem to enrage (that’s as close a description as I can get) so the question is “Why do they read and even more mysterious, why post?”

Anyone doing that because they can’t “resist” are either mentally sick or genuine trolls.
There are a couple of posts in this thread I could comment on but why should I? It only seems to encourage rather than the opposite. As someone once told me “As long as they’re bothering you they’re leaving others in peace.” Hmm that person was a moderator.

PM is an excellent forum so why do some try and ruin it? There’s one guy that I agree with 70% - 80% of his posts but I rarely comment them as I dislike his views on some subjects. It really can be that easy.

Some are very sneaky or cowardly. They just make do with giving "likes" to offensive posts. Probably nice to have others do the "dirty work".

Welcome back Gordon. I was also banned when the thread or threads that got you banned were ongoing so I don't know what they were about but I do have to agree with most all of the other people here in this thread that Spinit has been very heavy handed with banning anybody that he doesn't agree with. And the part about him also deleting every post that one has ever made is complete BS.
