This better be a tie-in that in the NEXT Mission Impossible 37, Tom Cruises character needs to team up with Dr. Brown to go back in time....

It was impressive. Expensive and wasteful. The amount of work getting it all set up and calculating the right speed considering the distance it fell was impressive. A little bit overshot. Not quite a perfect dive but close.
    You only get one try.

Tom Cruse should have been strapped to the front of the engine. He is an arrogant a##. I haven't seen any of his movies since The movie War of the worlds remake. That news interview he made was enough for me.
I never stay awake through a movie.

I didn't see the part where they said it was an actual steam loco.

Probably some sheet metal on a Winnebago, and some steam (dry ice in a bucket of water up front)

    It wasn't:-

"The filming train featured the mockup steam locomotive, which has features similar to a Britannia class and 9Fs.
Two European style coaches were immediately behind the locomotive, and then filming equipment wagons were behind this. Powering the consist was a GB Railfreight Class 66 locomotive."

    Default mock up

an informed participant on the piston heads website posted this---

    Flying Phil said:
The "Locomotive" was specially built with a Scania diesel engine in the tender for propulsion and three steam generators for effects. It was run -in on the GCR then went over to Norway for some filming. More filming was done back in the UK on the North York Moors Railway. Then it plunged into the quarry on a specially built length of line in Derbyshire.

CGI --another media tool to manipulate opinion and behavior--the loco mock up may not be a brit F class but it was created by
working hands shaping materials into a credible workpiece

    better rendition of loco launch--
