Notice it says AMPS, with a "S".

Language does evolve, otherwise we would still be speaking the language of the King James Bible.

Well, it is not a generator but an alternator.

Exactly . . . and FWIW, I think that I am fairly well read on a broad range of literature and I lead a reading group of a half dozen men that meets once a week that covers books dating from Augustine to the present. Favorite recent prose by John Flavel . . . an author capable of saying in a single paragraph what a modern writer might take 200 pages to articulate.

It drives me nuts when people can’t put forth the effort to read historical writings from the 3rd century let alone the 16th century. Intellectual laziness . . . the worst comment I hear is “I am not a reader” which is a sad commentary on the vapid passivity and laziness of modern man.

Yet even in all of this, I say amps and volts . . .

I can't say the same. I'm not very well read, and consider it a success if I can at least type with enough literacy to get my point across. You shouldn't expect any more than that from me (spellcheck is great).

I remember in school thinking that English class and typing was waste of time. Low and behold this thing called computers and the internet came along, and here I am picking on the keyboard and trying to form some sort of sentences into paragraphs.

I’ll have to look in to his work. Modern example of brevity and precise use of language in his genre is the late Elmore Leonard.

He is a reformed pastor / writer with a keen mind and quick wit. Modern day equivalent is Carl Trueman . . . Reflections on Being the Dumbest Man in the Room | Carl R. Trueman | First Things. I will check out Elmore . . . his parents are probably responsible for his skill in writing after cursing him with such a name.

The fact that you make an attempt at correcting your spelling shows you have respect for the medium of communication which reflects a sense of deferring to others (your audience) . . . a selfless and honorable endeavor which a great majority never comprehend.

Smaller than it looks from the original pix....

On another note, was looking at a new backup genset just delivered
    in a nearby shop.

It was simply unloaded and placed in tight to some other stuff (not installed yet).

I could slightly crack open one side door, saw a "Ford" decal, and then counted
    (5) sparkplugs....

Seems Ford Industrial is selling the v-10 for gensets these days.

    News to me.

Before you start with besserwisser-mode at least get your facts straight. 1000kV transmission lines are nothing new anymore. China has few thousand kilometers of 1000kV AC transmission lines.

Also note that BIPM(Bureau international des poids et mesures) uses "voltage" in the english part and "tension in the french part of the Le Système international

No mention of Mr. Diesel and his being tossed overboard when he insisted on the capital "D" in Diesel engine.
I notice that generator is rated only for standby not continuous running. Why is that? Standby could last several days couldn't it.

Is that why a 20 amp breaker is rated to carry 20 amps?
