While I thought the YouTube video of taking down the cranes was super lame as that could have been accomplished by a child with a hacksaw, I found the subject matter interesting, if only because I love the song by Gerry & The Pacemakers..never really understood it. Maybe they were going over to work in the shipyard..don't know for sure.

Sting has written an opera, The last Ship, about his hometown that built ships up into the 1970's. He has said young people did anything to stay out of the shipyards, teach math, become musician etc.
