Asphalt-like stuff falling out of electric forklift!

This is an older Crown 36-volt Forklift. It seems to be dropping asphalt-like grains on the floor. Has anyone seen anything like this? What causes it?

Could have been used on a asphalt driveway they tend to get bogged sometimes so could have some trapped bits underneath as they tried to drag it free of the bog.
Electric forks need a nice flat hard surface asphalt is not quite good enough maybe you got it because of this problem as they parted it out.

Thx. The fork has been sitting in same spot for 2 mos. and this just began days ago. That’s strange but may be explained by the recent high temperatures (warehouse no A/C.). The hi temp was just enough to dislodge it.

You might want to examine the top of the battery for excess corrosion as it has been parked in one spot and and the tar that is used to seal the cells in the battery box is probably swelling and pushing it out to the floor? Just my guess?

The base of our press brake was full of what we though was asphalt. Turns out it was some oil absorbing material to stop hydraulic fluid from getting on the floor.

Don't know if you've got this figured out by now, but it could be the poly tires deteriorating. This will happen more if the lift isn't used a lot and the tires are old. If it sits for a while, the weight of the lift will put pressure on the section that is on the ground & increase this.
BTW, if an electric lift, or anything with a lead acid battery sits unused, it should be charged at least monthly to prevent battery sulfation.

Thanks, it could be the tires. I know one is bad enuf that it gives a very rough ride, like it is completely flat on one side, big thump and bump every rotation. We’re going to have it replaced.
