I bought this Harbinge at an estate sale, and I need to lift it out of the basement through a bulkhead exit with no stairs. If I remove the spindle and slide the top bar back, can I lift it using a sling under the bar? Or will it deform, crack or bend under the weight?
I have never lifted a Hardinge that way but I have lifted a few others that are much heavier. That is generally the way to lift them as far as I know. Just get the slings close to the casting and should be fine.
