This showed up today, needs engine swapped. I told them what engine it needed, a long snout for crank driven hydraulic pump, but they insisted it was belt driven pump....
So that will be a reward conversation on Monday.

I was hoping not to, but looks like I have to pull the counterweight off to slide engine far enough back to get it out of the pump.

Forklifts are disgusting machines.

Taking the counterweight off will be the easiest task of the whole ordeal. Probably two bolts or maybe even one bolt, and I'll agree, sort of, LITTLE forklifts are disgusting to work on, not so true of the big guys though.

Time for lunch, but I believe it is ready to come out. Motor mounts loose, bell housing bolts loose, engine separated a little bit.

Took a long lunch and took my wife back with me to run the forklift while I wiggled engine out. About 4 1/2 hours to get it out, probably 3 hours of cleaning and maybe 6 to get new one in and done.

Good job. I sure would consider you lucky as it appears you did this all from up top...no jacking the machine up or crawling around on the floor.

There really wasn't anything that couldn't be reached from the top, I was kind of surprised, but makes sense from an assembly line manufacturing standpoint.

Just curious, how much does a new motor for one of those cost?

The place they got it from offers rebuilt with 36 month warranty for i believe around 2200. 500 core, freight included both ways.

I worked on Hysters and Cats for years..they must go down the assembly line upside down as there seems to be no way to pull an engine without crawling under the machine.

The two dealerships they called wanted between 6k and 9k for this job, engine included.

You and Mrs. Green got a bit dirty and greasy but saved a ton of dough! Well done sir!

Stuart

I was going to say i do not see any grease on her at all. I wouldn't dare wear any clothing that light colored in the shop. At least you have a nice view to rest your eyes when you get tired.
Is that a jointer in the single picture on the upper left in school shop green? Any pictures of the engines nose. I have never seen a extended nose on a engine. I guess the garbage trucks direct drive the pump from the front.

I have yet to pull TC off. I'm not really sure it actually is, even though the pump is where it is supposed to be for a long nose, according to hyster. She does the laundry so if she gets those greasy, well...

Its actually the long infeed table on my Wadkin GA 7 head moulder.

Its here, nice shipping container. Came with a gasket set, time to clean and swap everything over.

Well its mostly in. More time in cleaning and swapping parts then taking the dang thing out.

The intake valves were nasty in the one I pulled.

Those intakes are pretty clean compared to some I have seen with babied gas motors. I never would have thought you would get that much carbon build up with an LP fueled unit.
