Moving a House Back and Forth Not for the Faint of Heart

Tractor is a right piece of work, Western Star with right hand drive, Dayton wheels on the steer and Budds on the drives (planetary at that). The work clothes are impressive, like hot pants.

What might a house like that weigh? 60,000+ lbs or so?

I'm surprised nothing failed in that move- The way they showed the trailer tires squished about as flat as you could get them at several points during that move.

Seemed proud to show the moments where beams were deflecting heavily and workers in the position to be squished flat if anything goes wrong.

Way too many corners cut for me.

I was pretty freaked out until I started thinking about the gear as "mobile bridge" instead of "truck". Is that sort of rig standard in house-moving, or do outfits like Easy Moves design their own custom equipment?

Cameraman thinks he's Michael Bay (and that's not a compliment). There were places in that video where I literally could not tell if the camera was on the fritz or if the video editor was amusing himself.

Crew definitely has big brass balls. I would not want to be the driver of the rig on top in a job like that.

yep ,the million dollar hydraulic rigs are standard in housemoving .....generally allow a house to be off a site and onto the road in one day (and night)..(house on stilts,as yanks call them).....The house I live in now was moved in two pieces by GMC 6x6 trucks ,on trailers made from miscellaneous truck axles , the structure of the trailer long timbers cut from the bush......All hard work by men who drank a lot of beer.In those days ,none of the vehicles were registered (or roadworthy),and the escort cops would each get an envelope full of cash.

I knew it had to be down Australia way by the shorts (hot stuff btw:)), only place you will see tight shorts like that on a guy in USA is a Chippendales show, or a gay bar, problem is its the same guys!

Rather ironic that the company name is Easy Moves, job looks anything but easy.

I love that trailer, it can basically climb stairs. My favorite part was when the boss had his head between the rear axles of the semi while it was moving at the edge of the "cliff".

That guy has a pretty easy job. All he's really doing is switching the brakes on and off, turning the steering wheel and running a hydraulic valve to control the fore-aft movement of the hitch.

I don't think at any point in the video they used the engine/transmission/rear tires to move that truck.

I use sliding axle trailers often and you can do the same kind of tricks with them. For instance, using the Landoll hitch hydraulics I picked the rear end of the semi up in the air, locked the trailer brakes and used the power rear axle slide to pull the truck's rear axles over a 6' wide ditch.

Every time I have tried to put 50K+ pounds on one axle like they do in that video I have airbags explode. The rigs they are using to do that must not have any suspension at all to squish the tires like that and not fail.
