Hey guys,

So I'm getting a big mumma! An ST30 ATC/MC!

It's a bit of a questionable buy (recently taken out of work and put in the yard under a tarp because then needed more room and it had a battery alarm coming up) but it was a good price, and I'm a sucker for a good price!

It apparently ran just fine before they pulled it out of use, and the sounded honest (famous last words) so I'm hopefull :skep::skep::D

I'm thinking at the very least I'm going to need a parameter list for it, and would also like a set of manuals as well (no idea if it's coming with them, but I'd like to get PDF versions if anyone has scanned coppies floating about)

also is there anything that's going to be very different about the T3 controller vs my T2 and M2? (I'm guessing it's just a mix of the 2?)

Thanks guys,

I'll post some pics when it turns up! :D

The T-3 is exactly the same as the T-2 controller for turning, but with C-axis milling / drilling features added. It is nothing like the M-2 milling controller though.

Is yours a full C-axis machine or just a C-axis with 1° index? Mazak made both models. The software is slightly different between the two.

The 1° degree index has 3 finger pawls that lock into a 120 tooth ring visible behind the chuck draw cylinder. The full C-axis has an additional servo drive motor back there instead.

Not sure if it's a full C or if it's just indexing, for the price (if is works) i don't care. i have one repeat job that i do a couple of times a year that'll pay for the machine (it's a simple haxagon and pentagon shape with some simple turning, that at this stage i bar pull in my qt10n to make blanks then have to machine each end in the mill, which is an annoying 5min runtime per 4 pcs and the work holding is very sub optimal so it isn't nice on tools) even if it's just an indexing spindle. The sellers were pretty poor at getting me more photo's and whatnot (they're busy and it's obviously worth next to nothing to them) so i ended up just offering basically scrap price and negotiated slightly up from there.

Good to hear it's closer related to the T-2 though, cause i've only used the mazatrol on my M-2 controller sparingly, and wasn't much a fan of it TBH.

It also seems to have a mount for a steady rest, but doesn't actually have a steady rest (they may be keeping it for their other one) any idea how these worked? were they hydraulic or pneumatic or mechanical?

Hi, I have a ST30 ATC/MC with 1° degree index. (T3)
I hope you get a lot of toolholders to the machine both live and static.
I think I can help you with the information you need to get this machine running.
I have all the manuals but not as PDF.

Ps. If it is a 1° degree index and not the full C axis you cant mill a hexagon shape.
Why would I not be able to mill a hex? Surely with an axial live tool holder running a path directly along z then index 60° and repeat 6 times would give me a hex?

Can I swing you some dollars to get your manuals scanned for me?

Yes, you can do it that way but it will give you a strange looking end of the hex.

it arrived today!

ITS HUGE! didn't realize how big it actually is, very imposing machine!

So it's just an indexing type with the ring and fingers behind the spindle, she's a little bit rusty, and all the spare tool holders and chuck jaws are a bit average looking but it all looks like light surface rust, so i'll try give them a soak in citric acid or something to clean the rust off. (unless anyone else has a better suggestion) also no manuals (apart from an electrical manual in the cabinet) that I've seen so far.

I'll get it powered up tomorrow to see if it actually works and was a good buy or not :P

here's some pics, cause why not...

Now that's a beast!

Do a thorough search on EBay for manuals...and even spare static and live-tool holders.

The T-3 (live-tool version of T-2) control is a simple, reliable workhorse.

I powered her up! she definitely needs parameters, so if anyone can help me out there i would be super grateful!

Had a bit of a look through the elec cabinet and i have a basic param printout, but not everything is there, i also have 2 backup disks, so a mazak micro disk reader might get me out of the shit, so i'll try dig one of those up from someone as well.

One perculure thing about the machine is that it's got a much later model spindle drive/encoder/psu setup with a retrofit kit type thing... not sure if that will effect my parameters that i need VS a stock machine... anyway here's a few pictures.
